Chilean operators face fines up to USD 50 mln for failing to remove disused cables

Chilean telecommunications regulator Subtel announced that the country's National Congress has approved new regulations handing operators responsibility for the correct installation, identification, modification, maintenance and removal of their overhead or underground cables and other associated elements. Under the provisions of law no. 18287, local councils may take down any disused cables qualified as waste that aren't removed within 5 months, except in special circumstances.
