Chile’s telecommunications watchdog Subtel has censured state-backed operator Entel after it ran adverts for a commercial 5G service that used temporary spectrum, reports Diario Financiero. The ads appearing on the operator’s website suggested the 5G service was already available commercially when in fact the corresponding 3.5 GHz and 700 MHz spectrum was temporarily freed up by the government for Entel’s “5G Zone” project between the localities of Providencia and Las Condes in the Santiago province.
Following complaints from rival operators, telecommunications undersecretary Pamela Gidi said Entel could face fines for seeking a "competitive difference" in its adverts regarding the 3.5GHz band, which is part of the imminent 5G frequency tender.
