Chile's 19% VAT on foreign OTT providers passes into law

Chilean president Sebastian Pinera has passed into law the country's ambitious Tax Modernisation bill, including a new VAT of 19 percent on multinational providers of over-the-top (OTT) digital services. Starting on 01 June, companies such as Netflix, Spotify, Amazon and HBO GO which offer digital services domestically but don't have a physical presence in Chile will be required to pay up on a quarterly basis.
