Chile's Subtel proposes dynamic spectrum caps model

Thursday 28 March 2019 | 11:17 CET | News
Chilean telecommunications regulator Subtel has sent a proposal to the country's competition court (TDLC - Tribunal de Defensa de la Libre Competencia) to set spectrum caps using a dynamic mechanism based on the Brazilian model, reports Telesemana. The aim is to ensure more efficient spectrum utilisation via more flexible rules setting a maximum amount per band for each of Chile's 4 network operators. The proposed limit would mean no single operator with spectrum can access the 20 MHz block in the 700 MHz band, benefiting WOM, which currently has no spectrum in that band, said the report.
