China leads strong growth in global broadband market in Q1

Tuesday 6 September 2016 | 16:51 CET | News
The number of broadband subscribers around the world increased by 2.15 percent in the first quarter of 2016 to 793 million, according to the latest figures from Point Topic. The higher-than-usual quarterly growth was mostly driven by China, where new data caused the market researcher to increase its estimate for 2015 and put the Q1 figure at over 250 million broadband users in the country. China has added 34 million fixed broadband subscribers in the last two quarters and more than doubled its FTTH subscriber base in the last 12 months, led by China Mobile's expansion in the fixed market.
