China Mobile applies for FDD LTE licence
China Mobile chairman Xi Guohua said the operator has applied for a FDD LTE licence from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. According to a report on Cn-c114.net, Xi was speaking at the national party and people's congress. He said China Mobile wants to test FDD in case the existing TDD spectrum used runs out. Integration of TDD and FDD could also help develop the technology internationally, he added.

The other two operators, China Unicom and China Telecom, were recently granted spectrum for FDD LTE. Xi said China Mobile is still confident about the possibilities of TDD, which supports the development of the mobile internet. The operator's priority this year will be expanding indoor and outdoor LTE coverage. It also plans to reduce tariffs for some 4G packages, he said.
