China Unicom, Telecom get LTE FDD permits

China  Unicom and China Telecom said that they have been granted licenses to operate 4G service (LTE FDD) by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. MIIT also granted approval for the operators to provide LTE FDD service nationwide in China.

The two operators have been testing LTE FDD since last summer. 4G networks to date in China have used the locally developed TD-LTE standard. With the new permits, the Chinese operators will adopt the more common FDD standards used elsewhere in the world.

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) will release FDD-LTE licences to local telecoms firms China Telecom and China Unicom in the short term, Digitimes reports, citing China-based tech.qq.com. China Unicom carries out 4G equipment tender

China Unicom has carried out an open bid to procure equipment for the deployment of nearly 50,000 4G base stations in 143 cities around China, Digitimes reports. Competitors include Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks, Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, Huawei Technologies and ZTE, according to the report. China Unicom has been setting up FDD LTE/TD-LTE convergence 4G networks in 41 cities across China.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China has allowed China Unicom to expand its TD-LTE/LTE FDD hybrid network trial to 41 cities. China Unicom received approval to conduct its TD-LTE/LTE FDD hybrid network trial in a total of 40 cities on 27 June and 28 August this year. The additional city is Jiaxing.

China Unicom aims to sell 100 million FDD-LTE/TD-LTE dual-mode terminal devices in 2015, Digitimes writes citing a report. The Chinese operator has cooperated with local vendors Coolpad, Huawei Device, Lenovo, Vivo and ZTE to unveil dual-mode devices and plans to launch 91 models of such devices by the end of this year.

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has begun preparatory work to issue FDD-LTE network operating licences to China's telecoms operators next month, Marbridge Daily reports, citing an industry source. China Telecom starts LTE hybrid network trial

China Telecom has announced it has started a LTE hybrid network trial. The operator has recently obtained approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the PRC to start the LTE FDD and TD-LTE hybrid network trial in 16 cities on the mainland with the hybrid network development mode to be systematically examined.
