China Mobile, Clearwire to collaborate on TD-LTE devices
China Mobile and US Wimax operator Clearwire will collaborate on the development of TD-LTE devices. Specifically, the two companies agreed to work together to cultivate a device ecosystem that supports multi-mode, multi-band devices with minimum component complexity and cost. The two companies will work jointly to further accelerate the time-to-market availability of high volume TD-LTE chipsets and devices that should be commercially available starting in 2012. In addition, the two companies will collaborate to enable worldwide data roaming among TD-LTE, FDD-LTE and other 2G/3G networks.

Clearwire may skip debt payment

Clearwire is considering skipping a big debt payment that comes due in two weeks. The Wimax operator had USD 698 million in cash and short-term investments on 30 September and the USD 237 million debt payment is due 1 December. China Mobile to complete further TD-LTE trials in June

China Mobile aims to complete the next phase of its 4G network trials by June. In September the company completed first phase trials of TD-LTE technology in six cities with 850 base stations. The trials featured seven network equipment vendors including Huawei Technologies, ZTE, and Alcatel-Lucent.
