China Mobile topped 820.1 million mobile telephony subscribers in August, up from 818.7 million at the end of July. During August, China Mobile saw 1.3 million net customer additions, compared to 1.5 million in June this year. China Mobile's 3G subscriber base reached 202.6 million at 31 August, down from 209.8 million in June. The operator ended August with over 229.2 million subscribers in the 4G segment compared with 208.8 million in the previous month. China Unicom ended August with 287.8 million mobile subscribers, following a net loss of 556,000 subscribers during the month.
China Unicom had over 167.6 million mobile broadband subscribers at end- August, following net additions of 4.7 million subscribers in the month. Total subscribers in the fixed broadband segment reached 71.53 million at end-August. During the month, the operator recorded a net addition of 478,000 subscribers in this segment. China Unicom ended August with 77.4 million local access subscribers, after a loss of 278,000 subscribers during the month.
China Telecom ended August with a total of 193.1 million mobile subscribers, up from 192.2 million in July. China Telecom saw a net increase of 0.90 million mobile subscribers in August. China Telecom ended August with 110.5 million fixed broadband accesses, compared to 110 million the previous month. In the fixed telephony segment, China Telecom ended August with 137.6 million lines in service, down from 138.4 million in the previous month.
