China smartphone shipments drop 15% in Q1 - study

China's smartphone shipment volume saw a 15 percent sequential decline in this year's first quarter to 89.1 million units, according to a study by Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC). The total number of models launched during this period is equivalent to 461. The report further shows that the largest part of smartphones sold in China were mid-tier models, packed with a dual- or dual-core CPU, 8-megapixel cameras, and 5-inch or larger screens. These models were sold at prices ranging between USD 112.4 and USD 321 (RMB 700 – RMB 2000 in local currency).
