China smartphone shipments sink 18% in Q1, with cautious outlook for 2020

Smartphone shipments in China dropped 18 percent year-on-year in the first quarter to 72.6 million, a level not seen since 2013, according to the latest study from Canalys. Looking ahead, the best case scenario is for a cautious 326 shipments in 2020, including 137 million 5G smartphones. The sector will get hit by macroeconomic issues such as rising unemployment, affecting domestic consumer confidence and spending power.
