China to invest CNY 80 bln in smart city plan

China will invest CNY 80 billion over three years until 2015 to build 90 smart cities nationwide, including one in Shanghai's Pudong New Area, reports Shanghai Daily citing the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. The China Development Bank will extend loans worth CNY 80 billion to support the programme. Shanghai will build sixteen smart communities that will adopt the Internet of Things technology, including in Lujiazui and Biyun regions in Pudong.
