China's first MVNO goes live

T.Mobile, a unit of Telephone World Digital Group, has launched an MVNO on the local market.  T.Mobile thus becomes China's first mobile virtual network operator, offering mobile voice and data services, Xinhua reports. The MNO uses the China Telecom network to provide its services. The China Telecom MVNO offer is currently available in Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province, but will be gradually expanded to other parts of Zhejiang, the company said.

Telephone World Digital Group is one of 19 companies that have recently received mobile virtual network operator licenses in China. These operators also include subsidiaries of e-commerce giant Alibaba, and retailers Suning, JD.com and D.Phone. Several other MVNOs are also expected to launch services soon. Suning and D.Phone started taking pre-orders for their services on 1 May.
