JD.com launches MVNO in China
Chinese e-commerce firm JD.com has launched telephony services through a MVNO, the firm said in a release. The company said that the new offering will be commercially available on 28 May. China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology awarded JD.com a licence to resell mobile telecoms services in December 2013. By the end of the first quarter, JD.com had 47.4 million active customer accounts and more than 35,000 suppliers across China.

Chinese internet television company Youku Tudou has received an MVNO license from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The Minitry has issued a fourth batch of licenses as part of its large-scale trial of opening the Chinese mobile sector up to MVNOs. China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) is currently in the process of approving applications for new MVNO licenses, Marbridge Daily reports, citing an industry source. The new MVNO permits are expected to be issued within one to two months. According to the source,  a total of 7-8 companies will obtain licenses in the upcoming issuance, including China Mobile MVNO partners 21Vianet, ZTE's subsidiary SeeCom Technology, Yinsheng E-Pay, Dr. Peng Telecom & Media Group and China PTAC.

JD.com's Paipai appoints new VP

China based B2C e-commerce platform JD.com has appointed Lin Chen asJD.com's C2C site Paipai.com new VP. The executive will be responsible for operations and business development at Paipai. Prior to the new positon, the executive served as CEO of Chinese luxury goods e-tailer Yintai.com.

JD.com raises USD 1.8 bln in IPO

Chinese e-commerce group JD.com raised in total USD 1.78 billion from its initial public offering of shares on the Nasdaq market in the US. The 93.7 million American Depositary Shares, each representing two Class A ordinary shares of the company, was priced at USD 19 per ADS, higher than the earlier indicated range of USD 16-18. The ADS will begin trading on 22 May. JD.com sold 69 million new shares, and existing shareholders sold 24.7 million. The underwriters have been granted a 30-day option to purchase

China totals 19 MVNO licences issued

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has already awarded MVNO licenses to 19 private companies, Marbridge Daily writes. In 2012, the MIIT launched a directive encouraging private investment in China's telecommunications industry, which boosted trials in the MVNO segment. The ministry expects the number of MVNO users to grow to 50 million by the end of 2015.

JD.com acquires Russian e-commerce firm - report

Chinese B2C e-commerce platform JD.com has completed the acquisition of a Russian B2C e-commerce platform, as well as a Russian logistics company, Marbridge Daily writes citing a company source. According to the report, JD.com has selected Russia as the company's first market for overseas expansion. By the end of the first quarter, JD.com had 47.4 million active customer accounts and more than 35,000 suppliers across China.

JD.com to launch fast return service

Chinese B2C e-commerce firm JD.com expects to launch a new service this year dubbed lightning return, Marbridge Daily reports. Through this new service, customers will be able to receive refunds for returned goods prior to the receipt of the goods by JD.com. The company said that it will analyse a number of customer factors when processing "lightning return" requests, including customer purchase history, physical address, market segment, and other potential credit issues. This information will enable JD.com

China's first MVNO goes live

T.Mobile, a unit of Telephone World Digital Group, has launched an MVNO on the local market. T.Mobile thus becomes China's first mobile virtual network operator, offering mobile voice and data services, Xinhua reports. The MNO uses the China Telecom network to provide its services. The China Telecom MVNO offer is currently available in Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province, but will be gradually expanded to other parts of Zhejiang, the company said.
