
World: The production of DRAM chips consumes 800 kg of fossil fuel and chemicals for every kg of DRAM chips, for an 800:1 ratio between input and product, according to a study led by Eric Williams at the United Nations University, Japan. In contrast, the carmaking ratio is 1:2. As nearly none of the chemicals used to make chips winds up in the final product, most must be reused or discarded. There is little data available publicly about the waste chemicals and the semiconductor industry's effect on the envi
