Chorus CEO Ratcliffe to step down next year
New Zealand wholesale operator Chorus announced that its CEO Mark Ratcliffe gave notice of his intention to step down by the middle of next year. No reason for the decision was given, but Chorus said Ratcliffe would continue with full responsibilities as CEO for the next year while the company searches for a replacement. Ratcliffe said Chorus would continue to operate as business as usual. 

Ratcliffe led Chorus' separation from Telecom New Zealand and previously served as head of the wholesale arm when it was part of Telecom (now Spark). He also led the incumbent's efforts on developing New Zealand's Ultra Fibre Broadband network. Ratcliffe told the local press that he does not intend to take up another executive position, but may seek work as a director or consultant.

Prior to that, she was group managing director of innovation, products and marketing. Prior to joining Telstra, McKenzie was a CEO in the NSW Government of the Departments of Commerce, Industrial Relations and the Workcover Authority. McKenzie replaces Mark Ratcliffe who will step down by the middle of next year.

Vodafone's Aqualink cable to provide access to Chorus, Spark

Vodafone, Spark and Chorus have jointly announced they continue to jointly explore a range of options to re-establish and provide resilient telecommunications infrastructure to Kaikoura, significantly affected by the recent earthquake. The three operators said technicians succeeded in configuring equipment in Wellington and Christchurch to free up extra capacity on Vodafone's Aqualink cable to provide access to Chorus and Spark.

Spark announced that its free innovation and ideas workshop, Spark Lab, is going national for the first time since launching in Auckland two years ago. Chorus forecasts higher EBITDA, dividend in coming year

New Zealand wholesale operator Chorus reported a net profit of NZD 91 million for its fiscal year to June, unchanged from a year earlier. EBITDA fell to NZD 594 million from NZD 602 million, at the high end of the company's guidance, and operating revenue edged up to NZD 1.008 billion from NZD 1.006 billion in fiscal 2015. Chorus to recruit more technicians and support by year-end

New Zealand operator Chorus announced it is aiming to recruit another 250 technicians and support staff by the end of the year, in partnership with its service companies. This is to help meet the demands it faces in its copper and fibre business.

Chorus completes Rural Broadband Initiative

Chorus announced that the company has completed its five-year project under the Government's Rural Broadband Initiative (RBI), bringing better broadband to hundreds of thousands of people all over New Zealand. Chorus' RBI work has resulted in more than 1,200 cabinets being upgraded across New Zealand, meaning about 110,000 households and businesses now have access to faster broadband, with uptake at about 85 percent. In addition, more than 1,000 rural schools and 39 health providers can also access fibre.

Chorus to resume dividends thanks to copper price hike

New Zealand wholesale operator Chorus reported financial results for the six months ended 31 December 2015 down sharply on the prior period because of lower regulated copper prices since December 2014. Chorus unveils Accelerate line, investment in infrastructure

New Zealand fixed-line network operator Chorus has unveiled a number of new copper and fibre broadband products and announced a major investment in the Alcatel-Lucent 7950 Extensible Routing System (XRS). The Chorus Accelerate line will be available alongside standard regulated products, with the fibre products launched from 1 July and the copper products from 1 September, subject to market demand.

Telecom NZ names Ratcliffe CEO of Chorus after demerger

Telecom New Zealand has appointed Mark Ratcliffe as CEO of Chorus, in the event that shareholders approve the proposed demerger. Telecom has proposed to separate Chorus, its local access infrastructure business, into a stand alone listed company in order for it to participate in the government's Ultra-fast Broadband initiative. Ratcliffe is currently the CEO of Telecom's Chorus business unit. Telecom said that it aims to separate Chorus, via a demerger, by the end of 2011.
