Cisco launches independent early-stage VC firm Decibel

Cisco has announced the creation of an independent venture capital (VC) firm dubbed Decibel focusing entirely on investments in early-stage startups. In a blog post, Cisco claimed the new firm is the first truly independent effort ever formed by a major technology company and differs from its existing funding arm, Cisco Investments, which focuses on later stage companies. Decibel will be headed by venture capitalist Jon Sakoda as founding partner, said Cisco, without revealing how big the investment fund would be.
