Cisco names Moore as COO

Cisco has named Gary Moore to the new position of chief operating officer. Already an executive VP, Moore previously ran Cisco Services and will continue to report to CEO John Chambers. Effective immediately, Moore will assume responsibility for engineering, marketing, operations and services organizations. Moore will be responsible for the alignment and prioritization of company investments and ensuring operational excellence across the company. Chambers said Moore "is uniquely qualified to drive strategic prioritization and accountability within Cisco, with a laser-focus on operational excellence". Prior to this appointment, Moore was responsible for leading the overall strategy and execution for Cisco Services, with a team of over 10,000 employees. He joined Cisco in 2001 from the network consulting company Netigy, where he was CEO. Before Netigy, he had a 26-year career at EDS, where he held a number of executive positions, including CEO of Hitachi Data Systems from 1989 through 1992.
