Cisco to buy memory provider Memoir Systems

Cisco has announced that it plans to acquire Memoir Systems, a California-based provider of semiconductor memory intellectual property and tools, for an undisclosed amount. In a blog post, Cisco said the acquisition will help the company develop affordable, fast memory for existing Cisco switch chips, helping it to avance its application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) business to meet next-generation IT needs. Memoir Systems provides embedded memory technology designed to make ASICs faster and licenses its soft-logic intellectual property to speed up memory, something Cisco needs to meet
