Cisco to integrate Jabber and Webex functions

Wednesday 12 June 2019 | 11:15 CET | News

Cisco announced it is integrating its collaboration platforms Jabber and Webex further, so customers can benefit from similar features on both platforms. This includes extending People Insights from Webex Teams to Jabber, and mirroring Jabber messages on Webex Teams.

The changes are part of a wider effort to make all the company's systems run in a similar manner, with the same operating system, so users can easily access the functions they need. Going forward, the messaging app Jabber will look and feel more like Webex Teams.

From this summer, messages on Jabber will be mirrored in the Teams app to make it easier for users to collaborate and use the interface they prefer. Cisco said not only will users benefit from the unified experience, but IT teams will also find it easier to transition users to the cloud as needed. Webex will also be more integrated with PBX systems, whether in the cloud or on premises.

People Insights was introduced in March for Webex Meetings and will now be extended across call and messaging platforms from Cisco. The feature provides professional insights based on publicly available information about the people and companies involved in meetings on the conferencing platform, to help prepare and get the most out of exchanges with colleagues or customers. Cisco is now bringing People Insights to the rest of the portfolio—calling, messaging and Jabber, from this August.
