City of Vienna to subsidise 5G mobile stations from July

The city of Vienna plans to subsidize the expansion of 5G networks from July of mobile operators A1, Magenta Telekom and Hutchison Drei, Der Standard reports. From this summer, each new station installed is supported with a financial aid of EUR 27,500, 'representing EUR 5,500 per year for five years, and accounting for around half of the total costs. This will result in total investments of almost EUR 20 million. The news was announced by Peter Hanke, city councillor responsible for finance, economy, digitization and international affairs during a press briefing.

The city will subsidize 240 stations per mobile operator if they are installed on area owned by the municipality, for example on public or office buildings.

A1 said it already operates 60 5G stations in Vienna, while Drei and Magenta operate around 20 stations each.
