Claro Caribbean sales fall 9% in Q3 on hurricane impact

America Movil's Caribbean units reported third-quarter revenues of USD 441 million, down 9.4 percent year-on-year, attributed above all to extraordinary costs incurred in the aftermath of hurricane Maria, which hit Puerto Rico on 20 September. The costs included bonuses of 30 USD paid to prepaid customers and one month of free service provided to postpaid subscribers. In its statement, the company said overall service revenues were down 8.9 percent to USD 393 million, including a 13.2 percent fall in mobile revenues, with fixed line revenues contracting by 4.8 percent.
