Cnil looks at data privacy and recommendation engines

French data protection agency Cnil has published a report on the implications of the massive use of recommendation and personalisation engines, their influence on how consumers listen, watch, read and play online. The study found that consumers see recommendations as a useful service, but the agency said such systems raise questions about personal data. The report aims to describe the state of play and future scenarios. According to a Mediametrie study for the Cnil, 60 percent of users listen to recommended tracks on streaming services like Spotify and Deezer, and 68 percent watch video
