Cnil president steps down to focus on Senate elections
The president of French data protection agency Cnil, Alex Turk, will step down on 21 September to focus on the 25 September senate elections. Under a legislation adopted in March, the president of Cnil cannot be a member of parliament from September of next year. Turk said his move was intended to bring clarity for the senate race and to ensure the continuity of activities at Cnil. A new president will be elected at the data protection agency on 21 September by the body's 17 members.

French data protection agency Cnil has appointed Isabelle Falque-Pierrotin as its new president, Les Echos reports. She has been working as deputy to the outgoing president, Senator Alex Turk, and has been part of the national commission on IT and liberties since 2004. Falque earlier was a member of the Forum on the rights over the internet.

Data protection agency puts copyright holders on notice

French data protection agency Commission Nationales de l'Informatique et des Libertes (Cnil) has just announced that it put the country's music and audiovisual copyright holders' groups and their contractor, Trident Media Guard (TMG) on notice on 16 June for failing to put adequate security measures in place.
