CNMC fines five companies for premium SMS offences

Spain's telecoms regulator CNMC has fined five companies a total of EUR 862,375 for a series of premium SMS offences. The fines were handed out to Arabbesko Madrilena, Traditional Iebolina, NextCard-Consultores e Serviços, promovil Telecomunicaciones and Commercial Polindus 21, with the latter ordered to pay EUR 626,500. The companies were accused of using premium SMS numbers for purposes other than those stated in their applications by failing to supply users with the promised downloadable premium content after the SMS was sent. Instead, the companies initiated a conversation with the users
