CNMC opens review of fixed line access market

Spain's telecoms regulator CNMC has launched another public consultation, this time of the fixed line access market, in which it proposes maintaining the obligations imposed on the former incumbent Telefonica because it continues to hold significant market power (SMP). In fact, some 7 million fixed lines in Spain still have no associated broadband access, and Telefonica controls 63 percent of the market. A total of around 900,000 fixed lines are currently subject to regulated wholesale services, and the CNMC wants Telefonica to continue providing a wholesale interconnection and access offer
