COMESA approves merger of Helios, Malawi Towers and Madagascar Towers

Friday 1 October 2021 | 10:20 CET | News
The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) Competition Commission (CCC) has approved the proposed acquisition by Helios Towers of the shares in Madagascar Towers and Malawi Towers. In a statement, COMESA said its Committee Responsible for Initial Determination (CID) found that the transaction was unlikely to harm the relevant markets or result in reduced welfare for consumers in Madagascar, Malawi and COMESA at large. It confirmed that the parties had paid a fine of USD 102,000 imposed by the CID for failure to notify it of the proposed acquisition in time.
