Comesa formally drops Comtel project

Wednesday 23 June 2021 | 10:15 CET | News
The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) has dropped a project begun over 20 years ago to create a telecommunications company for the region, The Chronicle reported. The ministers of infrastructure made the decision at a meeting earlier this month, and instead directed the Comesa Secretariat to do a new study to assess and determine if there are any missing links between member states. The virtual meeting was attended by ministers in charge of transport, energy and ICT from the 21 member states and their representatives.
