CommScope is in talks to acquire set-top box maker Arris International, in a bid to expand its product range, people familiar with the matter told Reuters. The report sent Arris' share price nearly 7 percent higher on 24 October, giving the company a value of USD 4.3 billion.
CommScope shares have lost close to half their value since last April, prompting the company to consider potential deals to strengthen its business. At its current share price, the group is worth around USD 4.7 billion. A takeover of Arris would give it not only the STB business, but also Ruckus Networks, acquired by Arris last year to target the growing Wi-Fi market.
The negotiations with Arris are ongoing, and there is no certainty a deal will be reached, the report said. Arris and CommScope declined to comment.
