Competition watchdog approves merger of Airtel Kenya and Telkom Kenya with conditions

The Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) has approved the merger of Airtel Kenya and Telkom Kenya. In a gazette notice, the CAK announced several conditions, including ensuring that it retains a number of its employees. The company, which will be called Airtel-Telkom, is required to honour all existing government contracts and the merged entity will not be allowed to sell or transfer some of its operating and frequency spectrum licences until they expire.
