ComReg consults on 26 GHz national block licence award process

Friday 20 October 2017 | 16:04 CET | News
Irish telecoms regulator ComReg has published a consultation on its proposals to grant new national block licences in the 26 GHz band, before the current licences (awarded in 2008) expire in June 2018. While there is still uncertainty on whether the 26 GHz band will be used for 5G services, ComReg remarks that there is a large chunk of spectrum unassigned within this band and this may be sufficient to meet any future mobile technology requirements. The existing national block licences occupy 1.064 GHz of the total 3.3 GHz of spectrum that makes up the 26 GHz band.
