Congressman says Sprint, Softbank agree to not use Huawei

Sprint Nextel and Softbank have agreed to not use Huawei equipment and to replace the Chinese company's equipment in the network of data network operator Clearwire, which Sprint is acquiring, Mike Rogers, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said in an e-mailed statement. The statement follows reports that the government was seeking oversight of Sprint Nextel and Softbank's equipment purchases as a precondition for their proposed merger over concerns that Chinese-made products could be used for spying.
