Connected car production to grow rapidly over next 5 years

Connected car production is growing rapidly in both mature and emerging automobile markets, according to a forecast by Gartner. The production of new automobiles equipped with data connectivity, either through a built-in communications module or by a tether to a mobile device, is forecast to reach 12.4 million in 2016 and increase to 61 million in 2020. Automobiles with data connectivity through a built-in communications module are expected to increase to nearly 43 million in 2020 from 5 million in 2016, while cars linked to mobile devices will grow to approximately 18 million in 2020
