Consumer group recommends ad blockers to save on mobile data

Consumers with an ad-blocker on their iPhone can save significantly on mobile data use, equal to as much as EUR 3.86 per month, according to a survey by the Dutch consumers union among 30 popular websites. The Consumentbond visited the sites with and without an ad-blocker to see how much data is used. It reduced data volume the most on the weather site Weeronline.nl, by 83 percent when using an ad-blocker. Other big savings were found on Voetbalzone.nl (79%), Nujij.nl (75%) and Buienradar.nl (70%). The group noted that loading the home page of a mobile website resulted in an average of almost
