CPS calls for end to BT broadband instructure monopoly

Ofcom does not have the power to split BT from BT Openreach, despite this being implied by the British Infrastructure Group, according to a new paper from the Centre for Policy Studies (CPS). The authors want Ofcom to refer UK broadband infrastructure provider BT Openreach to the Competition and Markets Authority to investigate the option of structural separation. They believe that the UK's broadband infrastructure is falling behind international competitors, with BT focusing on fibre to the network and sweating copper assets, which will provide comparatively slower speeds.
