Culture Secretary warns of dangers of ad-blocking

UK Culture Secretary John Whittingdale has warned that ad-blocking potentially poses a major threat to the future of the newspaper, music, film and games industries. In a keynote speech at the 2016 Oxford Media Convention, he said that these industries were all having to adapt to a world in which consumers were no longer as willing to pay as their parents were, with advertising revenue now playing an essential part in their new business models. He said that the behaviour of ad-blocking companies, who draw up their own rules of acceptable advertising or offer to white list providers in return
