D66 still supports open cable legislation

The Dutch political party D66 still wants cable operators to be required to open their networks to other service providers. D66 MP Kees Verhoeven will make the case during a debate on telecommunications in the lower house 30 January, De Telegraaf reports. Verhoeven noted that the two largest cable operators, Ziggo and UPC, cover 90 percent of Dutch households. With the two now planning a merger, the required opening of their networks to competition is needed even more. The party's position follows a court ruling that overturned earlier legislation requiring the dominant operators to resell
