Data breach impact rises to USD 4 mln per incident - IBM

The average cost of a data breach for companies has grown to USD 4 million, a 29 percent increase since 2013, according to the results of a wide-ranging report conducted for IBM by US think tank the Ponemon Institute. The figure corresponds to USD 158 per compromised record, with breaches in highly regulated industries such as healthcare reaching USD 355 per record, some USD 100 more than in 2013. The study also found that cybersecurity incidents are growing in both volume and sophistication, with 64 percent more security incidents reported in 2015 than in 2014.
