Dell in buyout talks - report

Tuesday 15 January 2013 | 07:54 CET | News
Dell is in talks with two private-equity firms about taking the US computer maker private, Bloomberg reports, citing two people familiar with the matter. The buyout talks are only preliminary, they added. Dell contacted several large financial institutions about financing an offer, one person said. I used to be a die hard Dell customer - including purchasing for the company I worked for at that time. I switched due to the impossible technical assistance we received. It took me 1 year to get Dell to replace a laptop that came out of the box booting to a black screen. And tons of calls to their call center in India that did not note any calls, hence you had to start from fresh on every call. One told me to buy computer tools to take components off before shipping, and when I called back the next one would say that it's not hardware but software. I started copying HQ and the file got thicker and thicker... When they finally replaced, one year of my extended warranty had gone by and they sent it "empty", for me to reload everything. PITIFUL!
