Deutsche Glasfaser to lower costs for fibre expansion

Monday 5 January 2015 | 11:27 CET | News
Due to new drilling methods, the costs of fibre networks in rural areas could be lowered from EUR 5,000 to EUR 1,000 per household, thus without state subsidy programmes, Wirtschaftswoche reports. Deutsche Glasfaser is the first German network provider to use microtrenching, which saves 80 per cent of the engineering costs by cutting a 20 centimetre-deep slot into the pavement. After having connected 100,000 households in Germany, CEO Peter Kamphuis announced that the company wants to double the rate of expansion of the fibre network this year and to quadruple it over the next four years.
