Deutsche Telekom considers bid for Tele Columbus - report
Deutsche Telekom is considering the takeover of German regional cable network operator Tele Columbus in a bid to strengthen its domestic market position against cable rivals Kabel Deutschland and Liberty Global, reports Reuters citing unnamed banking sources. Stopping its cable rivals from acquiring Tele Columbus would help show that Telekom was refocusing on boosting its domestic operations after a deal to sell T-Mobile USA to AT&T collapsed. Buying Tele Columbus would allow Telekom to boost its broadband speeds.

German cable network operator Kabel Deutschland announced that it has purchased cable network operator Tele Columbus. The companies signed a contract concerning the acquisition on 21 May. Germany's largest cable network operator Kabel Deutschland (KDG) has won the battle for German cable network operator Tele Columbus, according to industry sources cited by the Financial Times Deutschland. Another possible buyer is rumoured to be Deutsche Telekom. The sources also said that Kabel Deutschland will have to agree to some conditions before the federal cartel office will approve the acquisition. Kabel Deutschland adds three new HD channels

German cable network operator Kabel Deutschland will add three new HD channels to its subscription Premium HD service from the autumn. These are action and entertainment channel AXN HD, children's channel Cartoon Network HD and film channel Kinowelt TV HD. The three channels will appear in the EPG of digital HD video recorders in the coming months.

Kabel Deutschland launches new programme manager

German cable network operator Kabel Deutschland has launched a new free programme manager service. This allow customers with a digital HD DVR to plan and record their TV programmes online. A mobile version of the programme manager for smartphones and tablets will be available from end-May as a free app from the iTunes Store and for Android devices from the Google Play Store.

Tele Columbus to offer 10 new HD channels from May

German cable network operator Tele Columbus has announced an expansion of its HDTV offering. From 01 May, it will offer 10 new HD channels from public broadcasters - phoenix HD, zdf_neo HD, zdf.kultur HD, 3sat HD, KI.KA HD, ZDFinfo HD, SWR HD, BR HD, NDR HD and WDR HD. These will be available free-to-air alongside the existing Das Erste HD, ZDF HD and arte HD channels. This means that Tele Columbus will in future offer 13 HD channels from public and 6 HD channels from private broadcasters.
