Campus M suits especially small and mid-sized firms. It is a mix of public and private networks. The company premises are served from the public network or, if necessary, through the firm's own antennas on premises and inside the buildings. The data is separated from the public network when sent to the processing computer. The company uses a virtual private network (VPN).
Campus L targets large enterprises. It offers a private mobile network through the installation of a mobile radio antenna and dedicated services on premises. This server provides the backend for the private network infrastructure.
Telekom is testing a prototype of the edge compute platform in the 5G factory in the Connected Industry Center on the campus of RWTH Aachen University. Its commercial deployment is expected to start in 2020.
The edge platform minimizes latency in the private network. It controls time-critical production and logistics processes even on the private network of the firm. The combination of mobile network and edge computing ensures response times of less than 10 milliseconds in the network, including in the 4G network.
Telekom is also developing four Edge Cloud data centres for the mobile network to offer these for the Campus L and M options. The new data centres will be available at the end of the year.
