Deutsche Telekom meets goal of 1.2 million FTTH connections added in 2021

Deutsche Telekom said it has met its target to build 1.2 million new FTTH connections in 2021, doubling the expansion compared with 2020. The company targets two million FTTH connections added next year. 

Telekom has also upgraded more than 3,500 5G antennas in the 3.6 GHz band for 5G standalone services. It is operating in total more than 63,000 antennas with 5G, and 90 percent of the population can already use the latest mobile communications technology, in line with the Germany's annual goal.

Telekom wants to connect a total of ten million households with fibre by 2024. From 2024, an average of 2.5 million FTTH connections each year will be added. This year alone, Telekom has laid more than 70,000 km of fibre-optic networks across Germany. In total, Telekom's fiber network covers more than 650,000 km.

Deutsche Telekom has signed a wholesale agreement with 1&1 to allow the use of its FTTH infrastructure. 1&1 will therefore be able to offer its own fibre-optic products via the Telekom network.

Goetel gets EUR 345 mln in bank financing to expand fibre networks

German regional network provider Goetel is receiving EUR 345 million in financing from the Hamburg Commercial Bank (HCOB), KfW IPEX-Bank and Kommunalkredit Austria, together with an international banking consortium, to continue to develop its fibre networks. A total of seven banks are involved in the financing.

Tele Columbus upgrades network at Saxony housing associations

Tele Columbus said it has upgraded its network for 3,500 households in Delitzsch in northern Saxony in partnership with two local housing associations. Tenants have access to fast internet at up to 400 Mbps. The housing company of the city of Delitzsch (WGD) has been a long-term partner of Tele Columbus to supply around 2,000 apartments with TV service under the Pyur brand. Thanks to the network expansion, tenants have access to high-speed internet and telephony from Pyur.

Vodafone Germany said it has built 1.5 million new gigabit cable connections for companies and households throughout Germany this year. It has carried out more than 1,000 expansion and upgrade projects on its networks. It now supplies a total of 23.6 million high-speed connections.

Deutsche Glasfaser said it will supply around 550,000 households in Bavaria with fibre-optic connections by the end of 2025. Deutsche Glasfaser currently provides around 100,000 households in 85 Bavarian municipalities with FTTH/B connections. The federal state of Bavaria will support the network expansion following a letter of intent signed with Deutsche Glasfaser.

Deutsche Telekom on growth path in Germany, adds 276,000 fibre connections in Q3

Deutsche Telekom said its revenues in Germany rose by 2.5 percent year-on-year in the third quarter of 2021 to EUR 6 billion. Adjusted EBITDA AL increased by 3.9 percent to EUR 2.5 billion during the period, resulting in a margin of 41.0 percent. Revenues in Germany went up mainly due to higher broadband revenues and increased device sales in both the fixed and mobile businesses.

Deutsche Telekom forms GlasfaserPlus venture with IFM Investors to expand rural FTTH

Deutsche Telekom said it has agreed to form the 50-50 joint venture GlasfaserPlus with Australian fund manager IFM Investors, which is owned by 23 pension funds. IFM is investing through the IFM Global Infrastructure Fund and will pay EUR 900 million for 50 percent of GlasfaserPlus, valuing the new company at EUR 1.8 billion. The initial payment from the co-investor enables Deutsche Telekom to finance part of its equity obligations in the venture.

Deutsche Telekom to further expand fibre in Munich, Stuttgart region

Deutsche Telekom plans to supply around 300,000 households in Munich with FTTH connections in the next few years. It has started by expanding the network in the district of Hadern and plans to complete works there by the end of 2022, laying over 60 km of fibre-optics and installing some 106 distributors for around 15,000 households.
