Deutsche Telekom said it has signed an agreement with Eutelsat to market broadband connections via satellite in Germany from the end of 2021, based on Eutelsat's Konnect service. Eutelsat started to operate Konnect in November last year with a total capacity of 75 Gbps. Konnect can provide speeds up to 100 Mbps to private households and companies. The satellite covers the whole of Germany and fourteen other European countries.
Telekom and Eutelsat are currently testing the first deployment of the satellite connectivity in Heimerzheim in North Rhine-Westphalia, where the network was damaged by the flood in summer. Households in remote regions or with limited access to high-performance networks can also benefit from broadband via satellite. Telekom and Eutelsat have agreed to hold more discussions on expanding their partnership in the future. Telekom could offer its own products using Eutelsat's infrastructure.
