Eutelsat's Konnect satellite enters into service

Eutelsat has announced a new milestone for its Fixed Broadband operations, as the Konnect satellite launched in January has started operating at the seven degrees East orbital position. The all-electric satellite will have 80 percent of its entire capacity in service by the end of the year, rising to 100 percent by March 2021. Just over half of its capacity will initially focus on European countries (France, Italy, Germany, Spain, and the UK), with the rest accounted for by Africa.

In France, all available capacity on Konnect has been secured by Orange in a deal announced at the end of July. At the time, Eutelsat also reached an agreement to buy the satellite broadband activities of Bigblu Broadband, in a bid to develop its own European retail channel for Konnect services.

Looking ahead, the operator will further expand its fixed broadband business with the launch of Konnect VHTS, expected to enter into service during the fiscal year ending in June 2023.
