Deutsche Telekom said it has started to operate its global network with green electricity since the beginning of 2021. It had already begun running the network in Germany using renewable energy at the the beginning of 2020. Telekom wants to reduce direct and indirect CO2 emissions by 90 percent by 2030 compared with 2017.

Emissions from the production and use of telecom products will also be reduced by 2030 by an average of 25 percent per customer compared with 2017. By 2050 at the latest, Telekom wants to cut its CO2 emissions to zero and become completely climate-neutral.

Deutsche Telekom said it has received a "Climate A List" mark from the non-profit organisation Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) and the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for its efforts to fight climate change.
