Deutsche Telekom to lose head of German business at year-end

Deutsche Telekom announced that Dirk Woessner, board member and managing director of its German operation Telekom Deutschland, will leave the company at the end of the year. Woessner told the board he will not renew his contract at the end of the year when it expires, in order to take on the position of CEO at a software company from 2021. 

Woessner joined the Telekom board in 2018 as head of the German business. He held a variety of management positions at Deutsche Telekom from 2002 to 2015, before leaving for a stint at Canadian operator Rogers Communications. 

Telekom said the executive committee accepted the decision "with regret" and initiated the search for a successor. Interviews with suitable candidates will be conducted "with due calm and care", the company said.

Deutsche Telekom chairman to outline succession plans at next AGM - report

Ulrich Lehner, the chairman of the supervisory board at Deutsche Telekom, will outline the timetable to find his successor at the upcoming general meeting in March, Handelsblatt reports citing sources. Lehner has no intention of leaving his post soon, the report said, adding that he was appointed to his position by the shareholders until the Annual General Meeting in 2022.

Deutsche Telekom plans to operate 450 5G antennae by year-end

It already supplies 5G coverage in Berlin, Bonn, Darmstadt, Munich and Cologne, while the cities of Hamburg, Frankfurt and Leipzig will be added this year. The 5G network is built on the existing 4G infrastructure. Therefore, Telekom plans to build up to 10,000 new LTE mobile sites over the next four years, half of them in rural areas.

Deutsche Telekom added 622,000 Sims in the three months, while its service revenues were down 8.9 percent year-on-year. Telekom said it added only 48,000 postpaid customers under its own brand in the quarter, suggesting much of the growth in customers is due to low-value MVNOs on its network. Telekom Deutschland appoints new board members for 2018

Deutsche Telekom has appointed Dirk Woessner and Adel Al-Saleh to its management board, effective 01 January 2018. Woessner will succeed Niek Jan van Damme as board member for Germany and managing director of Telekom Deutschland GmbH. Woessner comes from the Canadian wireless communications provider Rogers, where he has led their consumer business segment since 2015. Woessner previously held a series of management positions at Deutsche Telekom, including director of sales for business and consumer customers

Deutsche Telekom has hired Hagen Rickmann, a sales director at T-Systems, to become the company's new sales director from March. Rickmann will succeed Dirk Wossner, who has resigned from end February to join Canadian provider Rogers Communications, where he will be responsible for the consumer segment as president of the Consumer Business Unit.
