Deutsche Telekom to roll out smart parking system in Bonn

Thursday 31 August 2017 | 15:55 CET | News

Deutsche Telekom announced a new project to make parking easier in the city of Bonn. A system of sensors using the operator's NB-IoT network will communicate open spaces to an app that drivers can use to find and pay for parking.

The pilot project is scheduled to start in 2018. By the end of 2019, a large proportion of the city centre's managed parking spaces are to be networked. In the following phase, multi-story car parks and private parking spaces are to be integrated into the network as well, and the system will expand to include connections to public transportation. Drivers will also be able to book spaces in advance in gated areas such as multi-story car parks.

Deutsche Telekom already works with other cities on smart parking systems, including Hamburg, Dortmund, Moers, Duisburg and Darmstadt.
