Deutsche Telekom ranked first among Germany’s mobile network operators in four out of five categories including those for 4G availability and video experience, according to the latest OpenSignal mobile network performance report .

For 4G availability, Telekom scored 85.5 percent, up nearly 4 percent since the last report. Vodafone came second with 79.4 percent, a 10 percent increase in the last six months, and O2 third with 67.3 percent, a 7 percent increase. Both O2 and Vodafone continue their aggressive 4G network upgrades and LTE 800 deployment, the report said.

On a regional level, Telekom came first for 4G download and upload speeds in 10 cities in Germany, and tied with Vodafone in another four. Telekom passed the 50 Mbps milestone in download and the 15 Mbps in upload in both Berlin and Cologne. For 4G availability, the score went over 90 percent for Telekom's network in Nuremberg and the Vodafone network in Hannover. O2 passed 80 percent on 4G availability in half of the cities analyzed in the report.

For latency, Vodafone won in four cities and drew in two, while Telekom won in Cologne. Less than four points separate the three operators in the video experience category for 4G. Telekom scored 71.8 points, Vodafone 71.3 and O2 68.

Telekom's average download speed experience score of 33.4 Mbps was a clear 12 Mbps ahead of Vodafone's 20.8 Mbps, and nearly double the 17 Mbps of O2. For the 4G download metrics, Telekom scored 36.3 Mbps, Vodafone 26.6 Mbps and O2 20.6 Mbps.

For the upload speed, Telekom scored 10.9 Mbps, O2 finished second with a score of 6.4 Mbps and Vodafone third with 6.1 Mbps. This pattern was repeated for the 4G upload speed supporting metric, with Telekom that scored 12.1 Mbps, over 44 percent faster than the rivals. The three operators improved their 4G upload speed scores by roughly 1 Mbps since the last report on the German mobile market.

Vodafone won the latency experience category with 39.9 ms, better than 42.4 ms of Telekom and 49.5 ms of O2. For 4G latency, Vodafone scored 35.4 ms, up 1.5 ms since the last report. For 3G latency, Vodafone reached 50.7 ms, while Telekom increased by 2 ms.
