Digicel Barbados vows to absorb mobile services tax hike

Digicel Barbados has vowed to absorb the increase in VAT on mobile services implemented by the government. On 01 January the government increased VAT on voice and other transmissions from mobile phones from 17.5 percent to 22 percent in a bid to raise BBD 14 million a year for the funding of university scholarships. The range of services to be covered by the new tax includes the use of the internet and other transmissions that facilitate email, WhatsApp, Skype and more.
